INDIGENOUS INDIGENOUS STUDIES CERTIFICATE II IN ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER CULTURAL ARTS Course code CUA20415 Direct entry / February intake Explore your passion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural art, where you will develop the basic art-making skills underpinning the visual arts and craft practices, while learning more about your culture and community. You’ll learn techniques in Claywork, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture and Textiles and how to use them to express your culture in art. This course is suitable for the beginner artist and will assist to develop your personal strengths and connections as well as developing your language literacy and numeracy. If you wish to undertake further tertiary studies, you will also benefit from the folio preparation opportunities. All materials for the course are supplied as part of the program. DURATION Full-time: 1 year Part-time: 2 years PREREQUISITES You must be at least 15 years old to apply. SELECTION PROCESS You will need to attend an interview. You will hone your practical skills in a range of art and craft based units including Claywork, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture and Textiles. You will also have the opportunity to learn about Contemporary Indigenous arts practise and expressing your cultural identity through art. It may lead to a career as a self-employed artist/crafts person. You may also become a member of a co-operative producing art/ craft works for sale or an assistant in an established art/craft studio. All materials for the course are supplied as part of the program. DURATION Full-time: 2 years Part-time: 2-3 years PREREQUISITES You must be at least 15 years old to apply. SELECTION PROCESS You will need to attend an interview and expected to have an interest in and commitment to Indigenous Art practices.
