CERTIFICATE III IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE Course code: CHC30113 Direct entry / Semester one and two This course prepares you to plan and provide activities, education and care for young children. Topics include supporting children’s wellbeing, learning and development, as well as legal and ethical requirements. All students will engage in practical placement. DURATION Part-time: 2-3 days per week over 6 months. Includes 152 hours mandatory work placement to be completed within the 6 month course period. PREREQUISITES You will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check. SELECTION PROCESS Pre-training interview and language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) assessment. You will engage in practical placement and may have responsibility for supervision of staff or volunteers. DURATION Full-time: 2.5 days of class attendance per week over 18 months. Includes 380 hours mandatory work placement. SELECTION PROCESS Pre-training interview and language, literacy and numeracy evaluation. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES You will be able to seek employment as a qualified educator caring for children aged up to 12 years, in settings like: • Family Day Care Worker • Play Centres or Preschool Worker • Private Homes or Special Needs Worker • Child Care Worker FURTHER STUDY OPTIONS Credits may apply in a range of university courses, including the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. PREREQUISITES You need to have completed VCE (or equivalent) or be of mature age and have sufficient work experience. You also need to have a high level of literacy and numeracy skills following completion of an LLN assessment. You will need to have a Working with Children Check.
